CIRCULAR SAW DEWALT 20V MAX POWER DETECT REVIEW.

by Jeremy Kay

I recently purchased the DeWalt Detect Cordless Circular Saw and have been extremely impressed with its performance. The tool has a powerful motor that easily cuts through even the toughest materials, and the blade can be easily changed using the tool-free blade release. The laser guide is also a great feature that helps ensure straight, precise cuts every time. The cordless design is a major convenience, as it allows me to take the saw anywhere without being tethered to an outlet. Overall, the DeWalt Detect Cordless Circular Saw is a high-quality, reliable tool that I would highly recommend to anyone in need of a circular saw.

I rated The DeWalt 20V Max Power Detect Circular Saw at a 9 out of a 10. With it’s 8Ah battery and it ability of using any of DeWalt’s 20V Max batteries it can finish any job you might be doing. Now if adding a little bit of weight to your tool does not bother you? You can upgrade to Gen 2 FlexVolt . You will get the most out of your tools with a single-battery system that provides exceptional power and runtime. With patented technology that automatically switches voltage when you change your tools, 20V/60V MAX* FLEXVOLT® Batteries power 250+ products across the 20V MAX* and 60V MAX* systems.

FLEXVOLT® BATTERY SYSTEM

During the test runs in our shop, the Power Detect circular saw delivered some interesting results. The brushless motor will turn at 5500 RPMs and with a standard 5.0Ah battery. It’s capable of cutting just about every type of wood you might be working with but you can stop the blade if you are pushing to hard on the saw when cutting.

If you use a 8 AH battery or bigger it will give more power to the Power Detect senser allowing a noticeable gain in power to the saw.

Tracking:

This saw has a outstanding tracking ability at both 90° and 45° cuts with as good of a straight cut as you are capable of.

Size and Weight:

If you are looking for a light weight saw to work with the 20V MAX*XR Cordless Brushless saw is 7.9 lbs with out the batter witch is comparable to the other saw’s in it’s class. Depending on the batter you are using will determine the over all weight of the saw (the bigger the battery the heaver the was).

There are some heaver and larger cordless saws out there and although the 20V Max is not the smallest of the cordless saws available it is a great chois for DIY projects and some moderate size framing jobs.

Circular Saw Electric Brake:

Although electric brakes are not standard on all models of cordless saw it makes for a grate safety feature. When you release the trigger the the electric brake almost immediately stops the blade from rotating.

Removing Dust and Wood Chips From the Circular Saw:

Anyone that has ever used a saw that doesn’t clean out the saw dust in front of your cut can tell you that it is a pain to tri and fallow your line with out cleaning in front of the saw constantly. The forward facing motor vents blows the saw dust out of the way for you so you can make a continues cut without having to clean our cutting surface in order to see your cutting line.

Pros and Cons:

Pros:

  • 8.0Ah or higher battery gives it more power
  • Cutline tracking is Excellent
  • Good electric brake

Cons:

  • Beveled cuts obstruct the sightline more than other models
  • A little guard hesitation on some bevel cuts
